Be kind to your mind

… a reminder I need … featuring my Bitmoji avatar. 🎎

I was reading about Soul Calibur again, and then Tekken today. I’m inspired by my kindred spirits, Seong Mi-Na, and Jun Kazama. I usually will wear my hair like either of their hairstyles, with my hair in curtains in front with a ponytail or braid in back (I know Mi-Na does braids, but I can’t right now), or wear a hairband with my hair out. Right now it’s short like a younger Jun. I also want to draw my MQ avatar the same way with my different looks inspired by these two, as well as Rei Hino aka Sailor Mars, although with my hair colour in RL and MQ, I also look like Alexiel from Angel Sanctuary by my favourite mangaka, Kaori Yuki. Rei and Alexiel are also kindred spirits, and both make me miss my really long hair, which I’m back at growing out again. ^^; ♡

Ophelia … in love with a muse ♡

You know … I think I’m in love with him … Atsushi … I think I always was, but didn’t want to admit it cos he was the fandom’s heart-throb (naturally) … I adore Hidebear of course (he resembles my type, like Jared Padalecki/Sammy), but Acchan was our special muse for our mysterious original characters like Puck (based on Yoshimitsu in 2015, before being replaced with another East Asian muse as Puck’s face-claim by 2016), and later Tsubasa aka Dr. Crow (based on Karasu, and also my muse for him in my imaginary world and dreams as well – 2017 onwards) … all associated with mystery, birds, masks, dreams, the dark, death, kinks, and so on … in other words, Atsushi has been the muse for my ‘main’ crushes at the time of writing in recent years … ♡

side note: this concert is new for me, and it’s a strange occurrence to see the painting of ‘Ophelia’ by John Everett Millais, as I just saw it on the Wiki page for “The Last House On The Left” (based on “The Virgin Spring”, a Swedish film, in turn based on the legend of Per Töre, and his daughters) … it also reminds me of “Opheliac” (in title) by Emilie Autumn, which I relate to, also being a ‘mad girl’, of course. :3

second side note: after reading about the painting, I’m surprised I didn’t see the connection and inspiration for my recent favourite music video, about a romance gone wrong: “The music video for “Where the Wild Roses Grow”, commissioned by Emma Davies for Mute Records, shot by director Rocky Schenck and produced by Nick Verden for Atlas Films, shows Kylie Minogue in character, apparently having been murdered by Nick Cave’s character. We see her in ghost-like form and also in a river in a pose reminiscent of Millais’ painting Ophelia (1851–52). The video ends with Cave’s character putting a rose in Minogue’s mouth and closing her eyelids.” … lately, I’ve been a bit intrigued by murder-victim romances, thanks to loving Karasu, of course, heh.

OC Q&A: “Reblog and put in the tags how did you choose the names of your OCs”

“Reblog and put in the tags how did you choose the names of your OCs”
(Prompt by inthetags on Tumblr.)

I gave my own nicknames to my self-insert characters like Sha Pris Amaranth, Jung Sha-Mina and Yuri Sha Hargreaves.

Other times my favourite things, like Carnation Lily: two of my favourite flowers there, which I had named two of my Nintendogs after, which in turn inspired my OC’s name, so she was named after the puppies named after my favourite flowers. 😛

Bartholomew Wood and Leif Wood were named after historical figures. Well, Barley was named after a tree I named after a historical figure, not cos me and my brothers particularly care about these historical figures, but just cos we like the sound of their names, LOL! ^^;

Dr. Crow is named after my imaginary SO, Karasu from Yu Yu Hakusho whose name is the Japanese word for “Crow”, “Raven”, and “Blackbird”, as well as my crush I equate with Karasu from Black Jack named Dr. Kiriko aka “Death Incarnate”, while Dr. Crow’s real name is Tsubasa Hoshino. Tsubasa means “Wings” and is inspired by my muse and face-claim for Karasu being Atsushi Sakurai from BUCK-TICK and his association with wings, as well as Karasu’s other lookalike Lucifard Oscarstein from Kill the Crows of Three Thousand Worlds being associated with wings, too, while Hoshino comes from my other crush, Hidehiko Hoshino, also from BUCK-TICK. Dr. Crow’s nickname “Eric” is taken from Eric Draven from The Crow, and is what Sha calls him (just as I call Karasu this in my imaginary world).

Mitchi Applewaite was named after my brother, Micky, as a female counterpart to his character, Viktor, who originally shared his name.

Puck is named after Puck from A Midsummer’s Night Dream.

Just to name a few off the top of my head!

Which OC is most like me?

Re topic-of-the-day☀ on the PaperDemon Art RPG Discord server: Which OC is most like you?

I have five SI (self insert) OCs – Sha from our main webcomic, Carnation from another, Sara from yet another, Kagemitsu who started off as a Soul Calibur fanfic character now in her own original series, and Yuri who is my SI in the Yu Yu Hakusho fandom.

Sha, and Yuri, are very much like I am in my dreams; they’re more “wishful thinking” OCs, that I’d like to be like, one day maybe.

Carnation is mostly my opposite, tbh. And is the closest thing to an ex that Sha’s husband, Leopold (Amy-Belle’s father), has.

Kage is what I was like as an angsty teenager, lol. Her and Sara are the youngest of my SI OCs.

Sara is docile, shy even timid, naive, agreeable, friendly, eager to please, and generally sees the good in others – she is the one most like the RL me, minus some of my negative traits I’m struggling with.

Way Back Wednesday: Art vs. Artist 2018

I put this together three years ago (September 5th, 2018 according to properties) … My brothers are right – my artwork looked much better in the past, before my depressive psychosis fully developed, and I lost concentration on the simplest of tasks. I just need to discipline myself to make more art, and actually spend more time on each art piece as well, instead of doing everything at the deadline, or in a couple of hours before I can’t focus anymore. 😅

One More Night (versions 1 & 2) – Sakon-kun x Kage (Soul Calibur/Soul of Eternity)

So… in 2015, I made this greyscale vid of Sakon-kun and Ukon-san fighting Tira and her partner, with snippets of my OC, Kage, from Soul Calibur IV.

I kept this video private/unlisted on my channel since then, until just this morning I decided it’d be cool to put it on Tiktok (for some random reason – been in a Sakon-kun mood lately), and I edited it to have my favourite effect being “Neon” (makes it all rainbow-y/rave-y).

Here’s version 1 and version 2, as seen on YouTube:

Which one do you like better? Do you prefer something with colour, or do you enjoy the noir style of greyscale videos?

Funny thing about that, my Gramma, bless her soul in Heaven, said she always dreamt in black and white like the movies she’d watch.

Thanks for watching! 💚

…always in threes…

~*I’d love to walk away and pull myself out of the rain
But I can’t leave without you
I’d love to live without the constant fear and endless doubt
But I can’t live without you*~

Having a lot of feels about this song (particularly this version, which I’m captivated by) … Strange thing, coincidences that come in threes … So I associate this song with Yoshimitsu-sensei from the Soul Calibur video games: Yoshimitsu I, that is – “my” Yoshi-san – and thus, our OC Puck-sensei who was inspired by Yoshi-sensei when we wrote a crossover series between our main graphic novel story and SC (Puck-sensei is what Yoshimitsu-sensei is renamed to from my SC fanfics that I’m also adapting into an original graphic novel too) … And today I’ve been listening to this song, and saw that the Yoshimitsu fansite is going to re-open on December 8th, so roughly a little over 100 days from now – okay, I can wait … Then I noticed when going back to edit stuff on my art blog that I had uploaded the pic of “Puck’s Shadow” on December 8th 2019 … Kinda odd, but okay … then just now to share this song after listening to it on repeat for hours and hours, I looked it up to copy the lyrics from the original recording, and saw that the “My Immortal” single from Fallen was released on December 8th 2003 … If you read through all that – thanks! I have NO IDEA what any of it means, but … WOW! Funny cos I mentioned how most things seem to “come in threes” just the other day to Micky.

#Inktober2016 prompt #5: “Sad”

My description on my old art blog /// Instagram:

Sakon watches over his younger friend, Sha-Mina, as she sleeps on the floor in one of the many hallways in the clan’s temple. They might argue quite a bit, but she will never know how much that stubborn boy truly cares. He meant it when he said he’d protect her from the nightmares. ♡

From my upcoming webcomic series, #SoulOfEternity.

#Inktober2016 prompt #4: “Hungry”

As I wrote on my old art blog /// Instagram:

Jung Sha-Mina feeding a stray kitten outside her clan’s temple. The foreign biracial girl was raised in Korea, so she refers to all cats affectionately as “Nabi”, even after her abduction to Japan.

From my upcoming Drama//Adventure webcomic series, #SoulOfEternity.

#Inktober2016 prompt #2: “Noisy”

I wrote this on my old art blog and Instagram page:

Cheeky scenario featuring sensible Tomoe and restless Sha-Mina, two of the few girls in the #EternityClan, and #originalcharacters from my upcoming #webcomic, #SoulOfEternity.

Being my #SoulAvatar, Sha-Mina is as whimsical and rebellious, having the attention span of a moth – Tomoe’s English lessons go right over the younger one’s head.

Note Tomoe’s “I’m tired of your BS” face! 😹😹😹

{Oh, and that’s Sha-Mina’s headband around her neck.}

BTS: Sakon-kun

My OC, Sakon, is an adapted version of Sakon from Soul Calibur IV who is one of Yoshimitsu’s confidantes – in 2009 I used to write a whole fanfic series based around the Manji clan, and since 2015 I’ve been rewriting those fics into an original series with help from Mikau dude @octobernocturne 🎃
That’s also around the time I got into Japanese music band BUCK-TICK thanks to Mikau, and fell hard for Hidehiko Hoshino who became an inspiration and face-claim for Sakon cos of their similar facial features between the game Sakon and Hidebear, as I affectionately call Hide. 🐻
OC Sakon is also inspired by my other crush at the time, Sam Winchester from Supernatural, and was given Sammy’s actor Jared Padalecki’s birthday too (July 19th). 🥰
I admit, between the way me and Mikau co-write our OC Sakon, that he’s my de facto ‘ideal man’, even if reception from those close to me has been negative… Kinda like how Naoko Takeuchi wrote Mamoru Chiba aka Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon as her ideal man, and her friends couldn’t stand him, heh. 😅

Pet Fox

This is David Ravenson and Kagemitsu {Jung Sha-Mina} with Ruby, who is David’s pet fox. Kage, a ninja and thief, is undercover here as a maid working for the Ravensons – David doesn’t realise this, and comes to fall in love with the young maid {Kage returns his feelings, despite her mission}. This was initially for PaperDemon’s OC-tober prompt, “An OC with a pet” – it took me a long time to finish this, since I was also working on other art pieces and busy with appointments in my personal life.

Happy Christmas

I drew this for Christmas, 2016. This is David Ravenson and his pet fox, Ruby. They’re characters in my upcoming webcomic, Soul of Eternity, which I hope I’ll be publishing online within this decade. Ravenson is a homage to The Cars drummer, David Robinson, who I am in touch with over fb thanks to my fanpage dedicated to his music and art, while Ruby is inspired by my favourite Pokemon, Vulpix. :3 ♡

Edit – August 21st, 2021 – I found this description from my old art blog:

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! n.n ♡

Featuring David Ravenson, and his red vixen, Ruby. They both appear much later on in one of my webcomics, Soul of Eternity.

He is totally not a drummer, and she is totally not a fire type Pokémon. ;P

+WIP pix:

A Moment to Relax

This is Yorihisa and Kagemitsu {Jung Sha-Mina} from my upcoming webcomics; Yorihisa has his own webcomic which I’m hoping to publish this year, and Kage first appears in a webcomic that I’ll publish afterwards {hopefully by next year}, although they don’t meet until the webcomic after that one {in two-three years from now}. . . so that’s three webcomics I’m working on by myself, all connected to one another. The first two are oneshots, and the third {where they meet} will be an ongoing series. 😀

Yorihisa is a stoic samurai, and Kage is his naive young friend who is also a fighter; they make an unlikely pair, but come to travel together often, although Yorihisa doesn’t remember her name, and only refers to her as “girl”, whereas Kage looks forward to the rice that Yorihisa treats her to every night. =^.^= 💜

This is actually one of my older sketches, from my 2009 sketchbook; I coloured this in Clip Studio Paint. 💜

Puck’s Shadow

Kagemitsu {Jung Sha-Mina} and her master, Puck, from Soul of Eternity, inspired by my old Soul Calibur fanfic novel series. 💜

Confessions of an artist: I admit I traced over a screenshot I took of Acchan from the music video, “Romance”, by BUCK-TICK to draw Puck here… B-T is a HUGE inspiration for Puck, Kage and the rest of the Eternity clan aside from being inspired by Yoshimitsu, the fanfic version of Kage, and the Manji clan from Soul Calibur.

Edit – August 21st, 2021 – I found this description from my old art blog:

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

A proto-type design for Sha-Mina, and her master, Puck-sensei.

This was produced during a brief time period during the Summer of 2015 that my siblings — unfortunately — asked me to have my old series of Soul Calibur fanfics cross-over with our main graphic novel series that we had been writing for years, with them requesting I rewrite everything completely to be original, and set in the modern age, which honestly ended up butchering the entire concept and point of my series. -_-

I was hurt, but grateful when it was retconned; however, it ended in tears and me distancing myself away from the rest of the group to try and salvage what was left of my stories and pride. A painful time to look back on, but at least something came out of it. I may still go forward with an original series … but I just wish it could’ve come about a different way.

This version of Puck was slightly — okay rather quite a bit — younger than he is actually supposed to be; with more of a pressure on this pairing to happen … whereas I never originally wrote them to be this way … but, still, it made for an interesting work of art, I suppose … ♡

Works In Progress//Alternate Versions:

Brothers-in-arms

Ukon and Sakon of the Eternity clan, a group of chivalrous ninja-thieves, from my story, Soul of Eternity, inspired by my old Soul Calibur fanfic novel series.

Edit – August 21st, 2021 – I found this description from my old art blog:

Ukon and Sakon! n_n ♡

Two of my favourites to write, and draw {especially Ukon}!

Ukon, on the left {stern look}, is Puck’s right-hand man, and next to him is his brother-in-arms, Sakon {with the unkempt hair}, who is Puck’s left-hand man {I suppose this makes him the third-in-command?} — the both of whom are Puck’s confidants.

Those who already know I’m taking my old Soul Calibur//Manjitou fanfic novels and rewriting them into an original on-going webcomic series will recognise these two as Ukon and Sakon who travel with Yoshimitsu from Soul Calibur IV — you can even play as Ukon to help Yoshi-san out!😀

So why haven’t I changed their names?

Well, as it were, “Ukon” and “Sakon” are actually such titles for a {military} samurai leader’s second-in-command men; thus, no problems with keeping their “names” the same, especially since it’s just for a webcomic.

For those wondering about these guys — Ukon is the older one, and the both of them have been with Puck ever since he formed the Eternity clan.

The younger warrior Sakon is quiet, but reckless, and prefers to fight than talk, as opposed to the intellectual, level-headed Ukon who looks after Sakon; and later Puck’s assistant, Sha-Mina, when she joins the clan, as if they were his own younger brother and sister.

Ukon faces a grave danger later on in the series that ultimately changes his life forever; whilst Sakon foolishly falls head-over-heels in love with his master’s apprentice, Sha-Mina {who is blissfully unaware of his feelings}, much to the over-protective Puck’s disapproval.

Both of them train new members of the Eternity clan.

Sakon

Sakon_Realism
Sakon of the Eternity clan, a group of chivalrous ninja-thieves, from my story, Soul of Eternity, inspired by my old Soul Calibur fanfic novel series.

Edit – August 24th, 2021 – I found these WIP art pieces of Sakon-kun in my art folders:

So… as you can see, Sakon-kun started off with black hair – this is cos the Sakon he is adapted from in Soul Calibur IV has black hair, but as I was working on this art piece, I became inspired by Hidehiko Hoshino of BUCK-TICK (who resembles SCIV Sakon, and dyes his hair chestnut brown), and Sam Winchester from Supernatural (who is a brunette too) – these were my two crushes at the time I was rewriting my SC fanfics into an original series, so you get the picture of where I was coming from…

I was going to give Sakon-kun the name “Jared” after Sam’s actor, Jared Padalecki, when my art group was initially going to take my SC fanfics and rewrite them into a sorta crossover with our main graphic novel webcomic series (MQ is it’s project name for now; also known as Seasonal Wanderers at one point too), so the modern day Sakon-kun would’ve been named “Jared” with “Sakon” being his codename, kinda like how Sha-mitsu/Sha-Mina’s codename is Kagemitsu in the Manji/Eternity clan, but this was all retconned when we came to an agreement that my SC fanfics didn’t work in the modern day for… reasons.

The Japanese-style background behind Sakon-kun in one of the WIP art pieces came from the J-Pop channel on an internet radio I’d listen to all the time that Summer, and the cherry blossoms in the background in the final piece came from a photograph I traced and coloured over that me or Micky took when we were at the annual cherry blossom festival.

Here’s the speed-paint video I did of the initial version of this art piece, for those who are curious and want to see more:

First portrait of Yeong-Su

Today, my good friend, Steven, turns 29-years-old {30 in his Korean age system} – Steven is one of my closest friends I’ve known ever since a young age, and is one of my friends with whom my brothers and I often write and roleplay with. When we used to write our old fantasy series with each of us as ‘seasonal magicians’ in the story, our friends Steven and Matthew were part of the supporting cast. Just silly fun. So, when I asked Steven if he’d like to appear in current stories I’m working on, including a revival of an old Soul Calibur fan fic series adapted into an original one, Steven said, ‘Cool.’ – This was a portrait from February that I did using Steven for reference to draw his SC character for my webcomic, Yeong-Su. 😺 ♡

Thankyou for taking the time to look at my art! 😺
